when bad days come

When hard days come, they often reflect our own inner thoughts and states. Someone cuts us off in traffic, and we feel the sting of their behavior—but these experiences aren’t happening outside of us; they are filtered through the vessel of our body, through which life flows in and out. What happens “out there” is really revealing something about us: our suffering, our need to face it, and our capacity to move through it. Too often, others want us to bypass this process; they resist allowing it. But what is not allowed cannot be surrendered, because it cannot be seen clearly. It cannot be perceived through a muddied conscience.
